Harmonic edge size variation in meshing CAD geometries from IGES format
نویسنده
چکیده
A mesh generation technique on a closed surface composed of a few parametric surfaces is provided. The edge size function is a fundamental entity in order to be able to apply the process of generalized Delaunay triangulation with respect to the first fundamental form. Unfortunately, the edge size function is not known a-priori in general. We describe an approach which invokes the Laplace-Beltrami operator to determine it. The theory ensuring the functionality of our methods is described. We illustrate our approach by investigating the harmonicity of triangulations of some CAD objects coming directly from IGES files.

Hexahedral Meshing of complex and invalid CAD Geometries
The primary requirement for a mesh generator used in an automated tool is robustness. Surface based meshing algorithms fail very often especially with invalid boundary representation geometries. With generic boundary representation formats like STEP or IGES, invalid geometries are very common due to the loss of information and precision in CAD Data Exchange. This paper presents an approach to a...
متن کاملCAD Data Repair
Using CAD data for analysis is becoming more common, but is still fraught with dirty geometry problems such as slivers, cross-overs, minute edge lengths, stray points ‘on the moon’, wonderful clean-asa-whistle models that are useless for meshing, patchworks of faces that attract unnecessary elements, birdsnests of draughting geometry stuck in a corner, etc. Even if binary, native CAD files are ...

متن کاملAutomatic pre-mesh CAD data repairing
Computer aided design (CAD) models are the starting point for many downstream applications such as mesh generation, structural/fluid/thermal analysis, rapid prototyping, numerical controlled machining, casting, computer graphics. Each of these downstream applications are strongly dependent on the accuracy and consistency of the input geometry, but due to numerical problems, imprecise design, so...
متن کاملMeshing Complexity of Single Part CAD Models
This paper proposes a method for predicting the complexity of meshing Computer Aided Design (CAD) geometries with unstructured, hexahedral, finite elements. Meshing complexity refers to the relative level of effort required to generate a valid finite element mesh on a given CAD geometry. A function is proposed to approximate the meshing complexity for single part CAD models. The function is dep...
